Ajuda a Alimentar A Caes — Year 2021

The initiative began with a simple yet effective strategy: the **5-minute burpee challenge *to raise money for a *non-profit animal association, Ajuda a Alimentar a Cães.** Their goal was to raise €1000 in a month but in a remarkable show of **community spirit **and generosity, they surpassed their fundraising goal of €1000 within the first week, ultimately raising over €2000 in just a month. But there was a twist: To raise funds, they had a simple yet effective strategy: the 5-minute burpee challenge and then nominating friends and family to do the same, all while encouraging donations towards the cause. This viral approach not only raised funds rapidly but also spread awareness across social networks, amplifying their impact.

Volunteers from **Madeira Friends **also stepped up by regularly walking the shelter dogs, built a home for a blind dog and one member, Blaise Bowly, found a dog in severe conditions which was rescued by the association. Blaise not only ensured the dog received necessary medical treatment but also covered the costs himself. He visited the dog during recovery and was happy to learn that it had found a loving home after being rescued.

Reflecting on these achievements, Madeira Friends realized they had cultivated something truly special — a community driven by empathy, action, and a shared desire to leave a positive mark on the island.
